Ludwig & Ludwig

ca 1928 - 1932

5” x 14” solid maple shell

$1,850

Color:  Peacock Pearl

Lug Type and Number: Ten Tube lugs

Condition: Very Good

Extra Holes or Modifications:  None

Notes:  This is a rare Peacock Pearl, standard model with the Professional "time-piece" strainer and solid 1-piece maple shell.  All parts are original of the era and are in excellent shape.  This drum is
beautiful to look and make a wonderful display drum. We consider this drum to be a collectible display drum rather than a player due to several issues.  The shell is sound with not extra holes or modifications
but is out-of-round; modern heads will not fit this drum.  New calf skin heads where tucked on altered flesh hoops to accommodate the shape of the shell.  The glue ring inside the drum had separated from the
shell in many places, again due to the shell going out-of-round.  The spaces created by the separations have been resin filled to stabilize the shell.  The Peacock Pearl covering is tight to the shell but has
sustained some cracking, again due to the shell going out-of-round. The cracking or “checking” of the pearl covering in only noticeable by touch or very close inspection but, as mentioned, is still tight to the
shell, no lifting.  Gut snares have also been installed on the drum making this display drum true to one of the options offered in the catalogs on the late 1920’s and early 1930’s.
