Model: Standard "Swing" Model No. 30
Lug Type and Number: 8 Imperial lugs, with inserts
Condition: Excellent, wrap is tight, shell is in round
Extra Holes or Modifications: None
Notes: Very rare 1938 Swing model snare drum. This drum is beautiful to look at with its wood rims inlaid with White Marine Pearl. In addition to being a vintage drum, this an historic piece from the “Swing Era” of the 1930’s and 40’s. These drums were made for a few years incorporating the wood rims that enhanced the unique sound of the swing era. Most of these rims did not survive because rim shots “ate them up.” Drum companies later offered these “Swing” models with either wood or metal hoops, so finding one with original wood hoops is quite rare. The description in the 1938 catalog says this size and drum configuration;"...gives you the deeper, more resonant tone you've always wanted but couldn't get with smaller drums." All parts are original, including the redesigned standard snare strainer which was new in 1938. The heads and snares pictured are new.
