4”x14” Nickel over Brass

$300
Model: Universal

Color: Nickel

Lug Type and Number: Six tube lugs

Condition: Very Good

Extra Holes or Modifications:  None

Notes: The “Universal” model snare drum entered the Ludwig line in C. 1923-4 (introduced in the 1924 Ludwig catalog) after Ludwig came out with the 8 lug configuration for Professional
model snare drums.

1926 Ludwig catalog – “A new popular-priced model that we have named “Universal” to distinguish them from the regular Ludwig “Professional” line of drums.  The new drum is sold at a
more popular price and enables drummers do secure an all-metal shell, separate tension model in a substantial and practical quality at a moderate outlay.”

The shell is made of finest grade brass, spun to a perfect round being rigidly braced by spun turn-over at outer edges and double bead in the center.  Has six regular separate tension key
rods and rigid counter hoops.”

This example has survived well with only minimal plating loss to the straight rims and very few and minor scratches to the shell with no plating loss.  Original wire wound silk snares, original
hoop mounted throw-off, non-original plastic heads.  Two tube lugs have cracks in the round end bulb but they do not effect the tensioning.  This shell is still the heavier two piece shell, an excellent
collectible drum.
