Ludwig & Ludwig

ca 1933

5”x14” Nickel over Brass

$500
Model: Pioneer
Color: Nickel

Lug Type and Number: Eight tube lugs

Condition: Excellent

Extra Holes or Modifications:  None

Notes: From the 1933 Ludwig catalog – “The Pioneer Snare Drum is a popular priced substantial all around model snare drum. Has eight key tension rods, and flanged counter hoops.
Heads are tensioned separately, snare strainer has a convenient throw-off feature, and snares are coiled wire on a silk core.”

The 1933 catalog has the fist mention of the flanged hoops (double flanged like the professional line at this time).  This model also has the Pioneer badge attached to the shell as opposed to
the earlier Pioneer model that has “Pioneer” engraved in the top straight hoop.

This example is in excellent condition with no plating loss to the shell and only minor loss of plating to the rims.  Very little and light scratches to the shell.  Has original wire wound silk snares.
The heads are newer plastic and some of the tension rods and clips are replacements or newer non-original.

An excellent collectible and playable drum.
