1920s Rotary Rattle

$200
Maker:  Ludwig & Ludwig or Leedy

Condition: Excellent

Notes: Beautifully preserved Ludwig & Ludwig model 946 "Rotary Rattle". This same effect also appeared in the 1920's Leedy catalogs as model 7830 "All Metal Rotary Rattle". This effect is the early
version of the ratchet that is still produced today and produces a similar sound, more metallic sound. Here's the description from the 1928 Ludwig & Ludwig catalog:

"Looks better, Sounds better, Works better than any other rattle. Made of steel and brass. Nickel plated. Attached to hopp of bass drum. Guaranteed to last a lifetime."

Well, this one has lasted a lifetime or two. The nickel plating is in very good condition with slight corrosion on the front and a few larger spots on the back. The handle is a modern replacement. All other
parts are original. Works and sounds great. This is an extremely rare find.
