Notes: Here is another dream set for the Slingerland enthusiast. All original, complete circa 1945 Gene Krupa Super Radio King Deluxe Ensemble with complete set of cymbals. The outfit we have pictured is just like the outfit Slingerland pictured in their early 1940's catalogs. The outfit shown in the 1940 catalog above is identical to our set with one important and intriguing difference. Our set comes complete with wooden counter-hoops on all of the tom toms making this a truly unique set of drums. The wooden rims make this something of a transition set as Slingerland moved into their post-war production and away from the Rolling Bomber sets produced during the war. The bass drum and 7"x14" solid maple shell Radio King snare drum have aluminum & white cloud badges offering further proof of the post-war production. This is a one owner drum set that we were entrusted with by the heirs of the original owner. We have historical pictures of the original owner playing the set along with a short history of his career playing these drums in the Pacific Northwest. The drums are in un-restored "as found" condition. The black diamond pearl wrap is in perfect condition. All inlays in the hoops are complete and unbroken with the exception of one small 2" piece missing from one of the BD hoops. Original Slingerland "Radio King" stamped calf heads top and bottom on all tom toms. The BD has one Radio King stamped calf head and the other is a replacement modern plastic head. The original wooden flesh hoop for the other BD head has been preserved so the new owner can tuck a new calf head for the drum. All original hardware in very good condition. The set also includes an original trap rail for mounting the tom toms and cymbal arms. The original owner has lightly etched his name in various places on the drums adding interest to the set. The etching is very light and does not detract from the appearance of the drums. A complete lighting/heating system was installed on the set. Each tom tom has a light installed inside withe the cords plugging in to a receptacle on either side of the BD. The installation was professionally done and may even have been done at the factory. The set comes with a complete set of cymbals as listed below. The drum mutes shown in the pictures are home-made and not original Slingerland parts. The set includes the following:
1 No. 307 14"x28" Super Radio King Bass Drum 1 No. 155 7"x14" Super Radio King Snare Drum 1 No. 589 Trap Rail 1 No. 1401 9"x13" Tom Tom equipped with No. 160 Holder 1 No. 1403 12"x14" Tom Tom equipped with No. 160 Holder 1 No. 1405 16"x16" Tom Tom 1 No. 1458 Tom Tom Stand 1 No. 940 Epic Pedal 1 No. 935 "Shur-Grip" Muffler 3 No. 766 Adjustable Cymbal Holder 1 No. 837 Epic High Hat Sock Pedal 1 No. 801 Snare Drum Stand 1 No. 721 Long Sturdy Spurs (Pair) 1 pair 11" A. This is truly a remarkable one of a kind set of drums that we are offering. A must have for any serious Slingerland collector.
