Deagan 1237 Roundtops
Product Code: KIB5

This is a truly remarkable 3-octave set of Deagan model 1237 wide bar Roundtops. It is one of only a few sets known to exist with 1 1/2" wide Roundtop bars. The instrument comes with an exrta high C-sharp making this the ultimate set of concert bells. In many years of involvement with percussion instruments this is the first instrument of this kind we have ever seen.  The bars are a full 1 ½ inches wide and ½ inch think. The longest bar (the low “C”) is 12 5/8 inches long.  This is a very large set with the case measuring  42” x 26” with a case depth of 4”.  This is not an instrument designed to be portable. It is the type of instrument intended to be kept permanently on the concert stage or in the studio where the warm, rich, full, sound can be fully appreciated. The case has been professionally restored and is in excellent condition.  The bars are also in excellent condition and have not been re-tuned or re-finished.  The tuning is A=440.  The bells speak evenly throughout their range with the low octave sounding pure and rich unlike many smaller bar instruments with this extended range.

There are many unique features about this instrument that make it so wonderful. The oak case is not the fold-up style often found, it is a flat case very much like the “Parsifal” bells Deagan made with a removable top. The layout of the bars in this type of case allows for better spacing and ease of playing when compared with the configuration required by a fold-up case  The case is also deep like the “Parsifal” bells but does not (and never did) have resonators.  All the original hinges and catches are present.  The only thing missing is the Deagan tag or emblem that would have been present on the front of the case.  There is no model number on the instrument case or bars. The model number we attribute to this instrument comes from an old 1920's Deagan catalog.
The rolling stand pictured with the bells, which makes them easy to move around the stage or studio, is sold separately.

This is a once in a life-time opportunity to own the ultimate set of bells. This remarkable instrument will make every performance or recording in which it is heard somthing special for the player and audience.
