Early 20th Century Vaudeville outfit. Perhaps one of the earliest drum consoles in existance, this custom made drum console comes complete with a set of four graduated Chinese tom toms, a graduated set of five Chinese temple blocks, trap table, and two cymbal arms. This outfit came from a working vaudeville drummer's collection of instruments and spent it's career in the orchestra pits of Souhern California. The console is a one of a kind tubular frame made from plumbing fittings complete with thumb screws and then completely heavy nickel plated. The graduated Chinese tom toms are painted black to blend into the darkness of the orchestra pit. Their head sizes are 10", 12" 14" and 16" making for a rare graduated set. The trap table has its own arm so it can be placed in almost any position. Everything is in great condition given its age. All the Chinese toms sound good and the temple blocks have a nice pitch range, The nickel plating is in terrific condition and all thumb screws operate beautifully. The unique tom mounts can be placed in any position along the central hoop and can be twisted to any angle. The trap table felt has been replaced but everything else is original to the outfit. This is truly a unique piece of history that must be seen to be appreciated. It's easy to imagine these drums in the pit of an elaborate music theater providing sound effects and rhythm for everything from a silent movie to a burlesque show.
