The first “Space-Tone” drum produced by Bill Hinger after the discovery in the studio of Fred Hinger on a Sunday afternoon. This drum was made from a standard model Hinger Touch-Tone snare drum that was in production. Bill cut the shell in half, figured out how to make the shell adjustable by machining the adjustable slides and using the knobs to secure the halves in place and repositioning the throw-off. You can note the larger lugs unique to this drum, the polished aluminum adjustment sliders, the use of Allen cap screws that Hinger commonly used on the tympani and the two air vents that are located in the center of the drum. All production drums had the smaller lugs, black anodized sliders and air vents located in the center of the lower section of the drum. This is a great piece of history of the Hinger Touch-Tone Company.
