Ludwig & Ludwig Swing
Product Code: DSN59

This is a very nice 7”x14” Standard Swing Model drum with a metal top hoop and a wood bottom hoop.  Solid maple shell date stamped 3709 (September 1937) and “Anniversary” model lugs which are tapped, no inserts.  All of the log threads are in good shape with no stripped threads. The lugs themselves are in good shape with blemishes in the nickel plating. This drum comes at the end of the “Anniversary Model” era of 1937.  After 137 Ludwig redesigned the lugs to have inserts. Because wood hoops did not hold up to the impact of rim shots, Ludwig provided the option of a metal hoop for the batter side of the drum and a wood hoop for the snare side of the drum.   This is a typical example of that version.  The drum is in very good condition with all original parts intact.  There are a couple of minor blemishes in the wrap near the seam.  One small stained spot and slight crack in the pearl finish which is stable and tight  There is also one very small bubble under the pearl at the butt end of the snares not seen because it is under the butt plate.  These bubbles in the pearl finish are typical of this era drum and being very minor is not a deterrent to the drum overall.  This drum would make an excellent player for those looking for that “Swing” era sound.  The drum would also make a great addition to a collection representing the wood hoop era swing drums from the 1930’s
