This is a Ludwig & Ludwig Super Ludwig model snare drum in the rare Lavender Pearl wrap. Ludwig & Ludwig only offered the Lavender Pearl wrap between the years 1928-1935. This drum, due to the lack of a muffler, can be dated between 1928 and 1932. Many existing examples of the Lavender Pearl covering showing considerable fading to a greyish, WMP look. This example shows slight fading but still retains most of its very rich lavender color. This drum came to us altered by the installation of a standard model throw-off. The original Super mechanism holes were plugged and four small additional holes were added to accommodate the standard throw-off. We were fortunate to have an original “Super Ludwig” mechanism from the era which allowed us to convert this drum back to its original configuration. The original holes were re-drilled to remove the plugs and the small extra holes were plugged and hidden. The snares are original “of the era” individually adjustable coiled wire, the lugs and tension rods are either original to the drum or “of the era” original replacements. The extension arm and thumb screw are modern reproductions. The bottom rim is also of the era but from a Super-Sensitive model with "Super Sensitive" stamped on the bottom rim. The seam has been re-glued to repair some minor lifting. The badge has never been removed from the drum and the solid maple shell is in excellent condition. Overall this is a beautiful example of a rare covering from this era which will made a great addition to any vintage drum collection.
