Product Code: DSN56In 1936 Ludwig & Ludwig introduced the “Anniversary Model” snare drum in celebration of Ludwig's 25th year in business. The introduction of this new model included the introduction of the new, art deco inspired, “Imperial” lugs. Our 1936 Ludwig & Ludwig "Anniversary Model" Super Ludwig snare drum combines the new Imperial lugs with beautiful "Classic Gold Plating" (introduced by Ludwig in 1932) to great effect. The combination of the white marine pearl wrap with the Classic Gold hardware is one of Ludwig's handsomest. This drum is unique for a variety of reasons. It is the first generation Anniversary model with first generation, tapped (no inserts), Imperial lugs. It also has a 5" x 14", solid maple, shell which was falling out of favor by the mid-1930's when deeper shell 'Swing" model drums were becoming the rage. In addition, it has the original brass oval badge from the earlier era rather than the new white enamel badge introduced with the Anniversary model. This combintation of features, along with the rare Classic Gold hardware finish make this a truly unique, "transition" drum. This drum has being offered in all its original glory. The completely original hardware has been re-plated in the “Classic Gold” finish to look like new. The shell is still in round and has no modifications or extra holes. The original snares are a little stretched from use but still work well and sound great. The drum is beautiful to look at and would make a great addition to a high end collection but the drum also sounds great, being very crisp with a nice warm sound. The shell is dated 3601 (January of 1936) and the original brass oval badge has never been removed. This is a very collectable drum with a list of rarities: Classic Gold hardware, Brass Oval badge on an Imperial lug drum, Anniversary model with tapped lugs (all are sound with no stripped threads), and the 5”x14” size shell, that sounds great and looks great on stage.
