Barry Dog Bark

Barry Dog Bark

This is one of the most ingenious sound effects we have ever come across. Made by the Barry drum company in the 1920's, this compact dog bark is played by turning a small handle. The handle turns a small wooden barrel that causes a taught string to vibrate a head stretched over a small, cast aluminum drum. In contrast to other dog bark designs from this era, this Barry dog bark fits easily into the palm of the player's hand and its compact design takes up a minimum amount of space on the drummer's trap table. There is a small guitar peg type tensioning system that allows the player to adjust the tension on the string so that the instrument consistently produces a very convincing dog bark imitation. It is very easy to play. The instrument is in near mint condition. The Barry drum company stamp is clearly visible on the top of the instrument. The small skin head over the cast aluminum drum is in perfect condition and everything on the instrument is original and in perfect condition. This is the only example of a dog bark imitation made by the Barry drum company that we have ever heard of. It may well be a one of a kind imitation and will easily be the highlight of any sound effects collection.
