Bird Flock Imitation

Bird Flock Imitation
Product Code: COHT44

Vintage nickel plated bird flock imitation. As shown in the attached 1920's Nokes & Nicolai catalog, this whistle imitation has three flutes tuned a microtone apart. When the brass chamber is filled with water, it produces a great imitation of a tree full of canaries. This operates on the same principle as the standard canary imitations but is like playing three at once. The imitation measures 6 1/4" H with a sound chamber diameter of 1 3/4". It has a nice vintage patina and sounds great. The bottom looks like it may have been repaired at some point in its history but this does not affect the sound and the whwistle does not leak. This whistle is from a collection of traps and sound effects formerly owned by Emil Kresse, principal percussionist and timpanist of the Philadelphia Orchestra (1901 – 1945) who passed them on to Fred D. Hinger, also a former principal percussionist and timpanist with the Philadelphia Orchestra (1948 – 1967) and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (1967 – 1983). This is a unique opportunity to own a rare imitation from the early 20th century with a fine provenance.
