Jay Bird Imitation
Product Code: COHT2

Beautiful and rare all metal Jay Bird imitation with cap (Model No S-18),  as shown in the 1920 Dixie Music House catalog.  This Jay Bird imitation was one of a series of imitations sold in the drummer's catalog titled "Dummers Vade Mecum", a catalog of drummer's instruments, traps, and hardware similar to and including items from Ludwig and other manufacturers. Drummers of the time kept a large collection of imitations and sound effects to enhance their performances in the theaters of the day. Our Jay Bird imitation is a one-piece nickel plated tube with mouth piece, internal reed and "sanitary" cap. The imitation name "JAY" is stamped on the side. The imitation works perfectly. The total length with the cap is 3 5/8" and comes from the same set of imitations as our Bantam Rooster imitation. This Jay Bird whistle is from a collection of traps and sound effects formerly owned by Emil Kresse, principal percussionist and timpanist of the Philadelphia Orchestra (1901 – 1945) who passed them on to Fred D. Hinger, also a former principal percussionist and timpanist with the Philadelphia Orchestra (1948 – 1967) and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (1967 – 1983). This is a unique opportunity to own a rare imitation with a fine provenance that will become a centerpiece of any vintage traps collection.
