Rare, all original, early 1930's Ludwig suitcase style drum case with internal wooden frame. Few of these early 20th century fiber drum cases survive intact given their function. This case has survived in very good condition with all of its metal fittings and rivets intact inside and out. The hard fiber exterior has no holes or tears nor any water damage. All metal corner reinforcement pieces are present with no bending or corrosion. The handle is original and covered wit a black fiber tape. The two hasps work perfectly as does the center locking clasp (a key is not included). All exterior rivets are in place as are the four metal feet on the bottom. Both hinges on the lid work perfectly and the interior is in great shape. The curved fiber divider is present and still solidly mounted. The interior wooden frame is perfect top and bottom along with the two wooden rails to support the tray. The tray is not included but these can still be found. With the tray in place the case will fit up to a 6 1/2" drum. Without a tray, the case will comfortably fit up to a 10" drum. There is some wear to the black painted interior and a few small rips along the edges of the interior cloth lining that covers the wooden frame. All metal fittings have a nice patina with most of their original brass color still showing. The case is completed with the original Ludwig decal on the front near the handle. These cases were used not only for transporting drums, stands, and traps, but there was enough room inside for concert clothes and they are sturdy enough to be used as a throne. Truly a utilitarian piece that will make a wonderful addition to a vintage outfit display.
