This early 1930’s Ludwig & Ludwig, 5”x14” nickel over brass shell Super is a great sounding drum and in excellent condition. It is set up as an orchestral drum with a combination of gut and wire (4 gut, 6 wire) snares so it is both sensitive and powerful. This drum is very clean with hardly any scratches or dings of any kind. All od the nickel plating is in excellent condition. The drum a Ludwig “Super Sensitive” model snare drum that originally had top and bottom snares. As with many drums of this model from this era, the top snare mechanism was taken off and discarded leaving the drum with only the bottom snares, essentially making a “Super Ludwig” model. The drum is dated to 1930-32 given that the “Super Sensitive” logo is stamped and the shell is a one piece brass. The snare guards are reproductions as these items too were often taken off and discarded by players from this period. There is one replacement tension rod on the drum otherwise everything appears to be original, except for the heads and snares. This is a great player’s drum in excellent condition but would also make a nice addition to any vintage drum collection.
