Hinger Private Collection Now Available
A rare opportunity to own memorabilia and personal instruments collected and played by Fred D Hinger, famous percussionist/timpanist. This collection also includes unique instruments and protoypes developed for the Hinger Touch Tone Corporation.
Rare ca. 1915 C. Stone Chicago wooden slide whistle is one of a set of three matching wooden slide whistles we have available from C.Stone. Made of beautiful hardwood with a nicely turned wooden knob on the slide, this whistle is the middle of the set measuring 2" x 2" x 12 3/8" and works perfectly. All original with a beautiful vintage patina that produces a warm woody sound very different from the more commonly seen brass slide whistles. This is a very early example of a standard drummer's trap. The drummers of the vaudeville era kept a large collection of animal imitations and sound effects in their trap cases. This set of slide whistles is from a collection of traps and sound effects formerly owned by Emil Kresse, principal percussionist and timpanist of the Philadelphia Orchestra (1901 – 1945) who passed them on to Fred D. Hinger, also a former principal percussionist and timpanist with the Philadelphia Orchestra (1948 – 1967) and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra (1967 – 1983). This is a unique opportunity to own a rare imitation with a fine provenance that will become a centerpiece of any vintage traps collection.
