This is a rare Deagan model 4724 marimba xylophone. Designed for solo playing, the marimba xylophone is tuned like a xylophone in the upper register to accentuate the melody and has a low register tuned like a marimba to facilitate acccompaniment. The 4-0ctave wide bar instrument has bar widths ranging from 2 1/4" at the bottom to 2" at the top. The beautiful rosewood bars are marked NAGAED, signaling that Deagan used the best rosewood available at the time. The bars have been re-tuned in the past by Del Roper, who removed quite a bit of wood from the underside of the bars, and are due for another retuning. The surface of the bars is in excellent condition and there is no cracking oe chipping. The all original frame is in excellent condition. It has the original casters and all of the nickel plating is beautifully preserved. The bars on the instrument need some work but it will make an excellent practice instrument as is.
