This is a one of a kind, wide bar Deagan Model No. 70 Imperial marimba with factory painted white frame. Most of these instruments had brown or black painted frames. This marimba was custom ordered with a white painted frame. The Deagan Imperial instruments have some of the elements of the legendary King George marimbas from the IMSO. Their tunable, heavy brass resonators and select, high quality rosewood bars, give them a beautiful, rich sound that is on par with the King George and Century of Progress instruments made by Deagan . This is the largest of the Imperial model marimbas with a 4 1/2 ocatve range, C - F. The bars on the wide bar imperials like this one are much larger that the standard imperials. The low C on this instrument is 2 1/2" W x 18 1/2" L compared to 2 1/4" W x 17 1/4" on a standard Imperial. The width of the bars at the high end on this instrument is  2"  compared to 1 5/8" on a standard Imperial . The extra width and length of these bars give the marimba extra warnth and makes it a joy to play. Another nice feature of these bars it that they do no have the letter names stamped in the top of the bar giving the instrument a clean, polished appearance. Everything about this instrument is in perfect shape. The white paint finish is in excellent condition with only a few chips and some shrinkage cracks, The combination of the bright white frame and redish color of the bars give the instrument a stunning presence under the lights. The strings and some insulators have been replaced but everything else is original. This is a one of a kind, extended range, wide bar instrument that will compare favorably with the sound of any other marimba around and will be the focal point of any group of which it is a member.
