This is a full set of Gretsch WWII Defender drums. The set includes a 12”x25” (actual 25 ¼”) bass drum with original wood rail for mounting the toms plus a cymbal or trap table two toms, 12”x8” and 14”x12”, with tacked bottom heads,  and a 7”x14” snare drum. All of the drum shells are in terrific condition with no extra holes or modifications. The all wooden lugs and counter hoops are also in perfect, unbroken condition with original tension rods and washers.

The bass drum has what is believed to be an after-market metal rail with bass drum spurs attached to one counter hoop. The original calf head on the bass drum is broken, the other head is a plastic head (we believe it is to be a timpani head).  The flesh hoop for the calf head is present so a new calf head could be tucked on this flesh hoop. The tacked bottom heads on the toms are still intact but the 12”x8” tom head is spit and frayed around the drum. The 14”x12” tom has a split in the head, but it does not compromise the sound. The 7" x 14" snare drum is in great condition but is missing its badge.

Originally the drums would have most likely been painted with blue/silver/blue duco paint. Years ago, a previous owner painted the drums solid black. The black paint has some crackling or "crazing" with some chips but it is no flaking or deteriorating color.

This set would be a great set for full restoration by someone interested in preserving a rare and iconic WWII era drum set.
