This a rare, early C. 1910, Duplex Perforated shell 13 ½” x 4”, 10, lug, snare drum with nickel plated brass shell in great condition. For a 100 + years old instrument, this drum is truly excellent. The perforated shell really sets it apart from many others and has a design unique to Duplex. Other makers of the time (mainly Conn) also made perforated shell drums but with different designs. The rims are nickel plated brass over wood and there is a wood reinforcing ring around the center of the drum giving stability to the single post lug design. New calf heads where tucked on the original flesh hoops and an older set of gut snares were installed to complete the restoration. The nickel plating on the shell and lugs is in beautiful condition with only minor wear through to the brass in a few spots. There are a few triny dents on the shell and rims but they are hard to notice. The strainer is not original to the drum but is an original Duplex strainer of the correct configuration. The bolt and spacer attaching the strainer are the only non-original hardware on the drum. This is a rare drum that would make an excellent display drum for your studio. Don’t miss the opportunity as these do not come on the market very often.
