This is a rare Leedy & Ludwig knob tension snare drum in black diamond pearl. These drums were only produced for a short time in the early 1950's. They have a revolutionary internal tuning system which does not require a drum key for tuning. Simply turning the external knobs adds or removes tension from the heads. The execution of this design by Leedy & Ludwig wasn't hurried and not thoroughly tested so it failed to produce the hoped for revolution in drum design but remains and important part of drum evoluton in the 20th century. This example is all original wifh brass hoops, Leedy & Ludwig badge, feather touch strainer and internal date stamp (5104). The shell is in good condition and retains its original interior whie paint. The top brass rim has some slight damage and plating loss. The black diamond pearl wrap is in good condition but has a two tiny extra holes on either side of the butt plate. These rare drums are some of the more interesting designs ever produced in the US. This example will make a great addition to any snare drum collection.
