Circa 1933 Ludwig & Ludwig White Marine Pearl Super-Sensitive with “Classic Gold” plated hardware.

This is a beautiful Super Sensitive model snare drum with working top and bottom snares, that has been completely restored to original condition.  The solid mahogany shell is in excellent condition and in round. Modern heads fit easily top and bottom. All the "Classic Gold" plated hardware is original to the drum or of the era.  The original plating overall is in very good condition. We have polished and re-lacquered every piece of hardware to bring back its original luster.  The WMP has yellowed slightly to create a nice warm shade that blends well and enhances the “Classic Gold” hardware. There are a few slight bubbles in the WMP, which is typical of this era drum, but they are hardly noticeable and do not affect the drum in any way. The combination wire & gut snares on the bottom strainer are probably from the 1960’s. The wire snares on the top mechanism are original and in terrific condition The inside of the shell had been repainted a bgith white which was not era correct. We have repainted the interiot with a more era correct shade of white. There is no date code stamped on the inside of the shell. The muffler, or damper, was added to Ludwig & Ludwig drums starting about 1933.  So we date this drum to that time, 1933-1935.  In 1936, the anniversary year, they started using the new Imperial lugs so this narrows the date down to this short period.

Ludwig’s “Classic Gold” plating was first mentioned in the 1932 catalog and described as follows:

“This is a beautiful gold-like plating supplied on Ludwig drums, drum fittings, and metal accessories at a slight additional cost.  Similar to the former Ludwig Deluxe (imitation gold) plating, but more durable, and even more beautiful than the plating which it succeeds.”

This is a terrific sounding drum. Solid mahogany shells from this period have a warmth that is unmatched by any other shell. This is a rare opportunity to have a drum for your collection that was the top of the line snare drum with all of the bells & whistles offered by Ludwig during this era.
