This is an excellent player’s drum with that great sound only produced by a two-piece heavy brass shell from the 1920’s. The nickel over brass (NOB) shells made by Ludwig in the late 20’s are unequaled in their sound production and sensitivity. Combine this shell with the Super Ludwig mechanism with individually adjustable snares and you have a fantastic sounding drum with maximum control over the snare response. This Super Ludwig snare has a rare 5” x 15” shell size, which is a nice compliment to the more standard sized drums from the period. We aren’t sure of the exact date of this drum, however, drums produced prior to 1927 did not come with snare guards as they were sold as a separate accessory from1925-1927. We have added high quality Wanser reproduction snare guards and a reproduction thumbscrew and throw-off lever. The snares are original Ludwig gut snares from the 1960’s, which fit the drum perfectly. The throw-off works smoothly.
