Here is a rare Deagan, 5-octave model 4728 marimba-xylophone. This is a colossus of an instrument with a beautiful sound to match. It is a full 9' in length with curved resonators in the lower octave giving it an imposing stage presence. The rosewood bars are in beautiful retuned condition. They range in size from 2 1/2" x 19 3/4" to 2" x 6 3/4". The instrument was tuned many years ago by Del Roper. He took some of the material from the underside of the bars giving the instrument more of a modern marimba sound quality. It is the most successful of all of Mr. Roper's work that we have seen. The frame was also successfully altered. The original rails and resonatiors were in one piece making this frame virtually impossible to move from venue to venue. To compensate, Mr. Roper divied the resonators and rails in half like later Deagan frames. It's now possible to break down the instrument down and transport it. The resonators are individually tunable through most of the range. The frame is sturdy and in great condition for its age. The bar mounting systme is one of the earlier version from Deagan so they stay permanently attached to the rails which has kept the bars safe over the years. We just can't come up with enough positive adjectives to describe the sound of this instrument. It is truly a one of a kind in every way and would make a great addition to a ant percussion studio.
