This is a nicely preserved Leedy Broadway Standard "Swingster" model snare drum from 1946. It has a clear 4608 datestamp on the inside of the shell placing the drum in the early part of Leedy's postwar production. As shown in the attached 1944 catalog, the Swingster model includes the extended snare and butt plate bridges and new beaver tail lugs. This is example is wrapped in white marine pearl over its 8" x 14" shell. All parts are original except for two tension rods that are era correct. It has NOB double flanged hoops, an internal muffler and 16 beavertail lugs. it is in excellent overall condition with no extra holes or cracks in the wrap. There is one small spot under the top hoop where the wrap has sagged slightly which is typical of this era of Leedy drums. It has some slight mellowing of the color in the white marine pearl that gives it a beautiful vintage look. The drum is in round so modern heads fit easily. The deep shell size drums were popular in the big band era for their depth of sound. This is a great drum to add to a post war Leedy outfit or snare drum collection.
