Leedy Harpaphone circa 1930 in excellent, original condition. This rare Leedy Harpaphone, is like a set of standard orchestra bells mounted in a case but is pitched one octave lower. Deagan also made similar instruments during this era with the same range and called them “Song Bells”.  These instruments have internal resonators mounted inside the case to give the wide bars extra resonance. Cloth covered cases from this era are often ripped, torn or falling apart, but this case is in very good original condition with only a few scuffs and some slight wear.  The original leather carrying strap, handle, hinges, internal leather strap and bar, are all original. The internal leather strap attaches to the lid allowing the top to be held in a vertical, open, playing position without being removed. The only thing not original to the case is the felt strips mounted inside the top cover that hold the bars in position when the case is closed. The bars are also in excellent overall condition. Some of the bars do have some slight pitting but this does not affect the sound or pitch and does not detract from the overall appearance.  The bars, sitting on their original felt beds, resonate nicely.  Overall this is an excellent instrument in terrific original condition. This rare Leedy Harpaphone would be an excellent addition to anyone’s collection of bells or mallet instruments.
