This is a rare pair of 1930's Leedy model no. 1655 timpani mallets. As shown in the 1933 Leedy catalog, the model no. 1655 pair of mallets has removable hard felt disc heads and hickory shafts. This was the hardest pair of mallets produced by Leedy in this era. The felt discs are hard, very similar to the stoccato mallets produced in later years by Vic Firth. The oversized felt discs are 2" in diameter and held onto the shaft with a large threaded nut similar to Goodman mallets. This pair is in excellent overall condition. There is a clear script Leedy logo and model number on the shafts. There are no cracks or chips in the shafts. The felt heads are a little dirty and have some tiny moth holes but are perfectly playable and sound great. This is a rare pair of mallets that are highly collectible as well as playable.
