This is a rare Leedy leather slap mallet from the 1930's. As shown in the attached 1934 Leedy catalog, this model no. 1727, slap mallet has a leather head and hickory shaft. Leedy describes the use of the soft leather headed mallet as "Hot" marimba. The leather mallet head is in excellent condition. The stitching along the seams is tight and there are no tears or holes. The hickory shaft has no dents or splits. There is no Leedy brand marked on the shaft but it matches the catalog drawing and description perfectly.
