This is a nice 6 ½ x 14 Ludwig & Ludwig snare drum from April 1940. (4004 date stamp). This is a rare drum because the Super-Sensitive model disappeared from the Ludwig catalogs in 1937. Although we see Super-Sensitive models that date beyond 1937 it is extremely rare to see one dated beyond the 1930s. The other numbers stamped on the interior of the shell (4440 and 40-1) are probably referring to the finish applied to the shell. The Black/Gold/Black duco finished shell is in great condition. The finish has many scuffs and blemishes, which is typical for this finish, but the paint is not chipping or flaking. This is a maple/poplar/maple ply shell with reinforcing rings. The shell is “in round” with no issues regarding modern heads fitting. The all original, nickel plated hardware is nickel plated is in great condition. The top snares are present and work perfectly. The individually adjustable bottom wire snares are also fully functional. This drum sounds great, it is very sensitive and has a rich tone. Don’t miss this opportunity to add a rare, great sounding drum to your studio.
