Hinger Private Collection Now Available
A rare opportunity to own memorabilia and personal instruments collected and played by Fred D Hinger, famous percussionist/timpanist. This collection also includes unique instruments and protoypes developed for the Hinger Touch Tone Corporation.
This is a completely original Ludwig "Universal" snare durm from the 1920's. As shown in the attached 1927 Ludwig catalog, the Universal metal shell model has a light-weight, two-piece nickel over brass shell, 6 tube lugs, and straight, no-flange nickel over steel rims. This exanple is in "as found" condition. It has its original wire wound silk snares and calfskin heads that are in playable shape. There is a clear Ludwig "Universal" model stamp in the top rim and a working throw-off. There is some slight plating loss on some of the steel parts and a small amount of rust on the rims. This will make a great display or player drum. With a little work this brass shell drum with its attractive 4" x 14" shell size could be an ideal drum for a working percussionist.
