Very nice, 4”x14”, two piece nickel over brass shell, Super-Ludwig Dance model snare drum. The 4”x14” “Super Ludwig” snare drum, from the 1920s is getting harder and harder to find. This example has original snare guards and counter sunk tube lugs, which began being offered c. 1927, dating this drum between 1927 and 1930.
All hardware is original to the drum with the exception of one of the slides that carry the snares and the snares. The snares are period 10 individually adjustable snappy wire snares. The shell shows some wear, some minor dings and some pitting on the shell and hardware, which puts this drum in the “player” class rather than a collector class. However, a collector might also be interested in this drum due to its rarity. The shell is perfectly in round so modern heads fit and tune easily on the drum. The drum is equipped with new plastic heads top and bottom (Remo & Evans). The instrument has great sensitivity and would work very well in any musical setting. If the buyer wishes we can replace the wire snares with individually adjustable cable, gut, or a combination of gut and wire snares. Don’t miss the opportunity to have the 4”x14” Super Ludwig from the 1920s in your collection of drums.
