1923-1924 Ludwig & Ludwig “De Luxe” (Black Beauty) Dance model 4”x14” snare drum. This De Luxe model snare drum is in very good condition with average wear and tear for a 96 year old drum. The shell has wear to the black gun metal finish as seen in the pictures and a few dings typical of drums of this age. However, the shell is “in round” and the drum sounds great. The 4”x14” size is quite sought after and harder to find then the more common 5”x14” size. The smaller depth gives this drum great sensitivity and ease of playing. It's heavy, two piece brass shell gives the drum a nice warm sound not found in later drums. A heater had been installed (non-factory installation) at some point in the drum's history. The heater itself is long gone so to cover the extra holes, a brass plate, similar to the original heater plate was installed. The tube lugs clips, rims, throw-off, and butt plate are all original to the drum. The tension rods are not original but are the correct style and vintage for the drum. The drum and hardware were cleaned and lightly polished to bring back some of their original luster. The hardware was also lightly re-lacquered to prevent future tarnishing. This is a good opportunity to acquire a sought after and legendary snare drum in a very popular size for a reasonable price. This drum would make a nice addition to a vintage drum collection but will also be at home on any stage.
