Completely reconditioned, early 1930's Ludwig & Ludwig 6 ½”x14” solid maple shell snare drum. This is an excellent sounding, easy playing snare drum.  It was originally a Ludwig Super-Sensitive model. At some point in its past, it was recoverd and the holes for the upper mechanism were plugged and covered. Given the diffuclty in finding an upper snare mechanism from this era, we converted this drum to a Super-Ludwig model which is identical in every aspect to a Super Sensitive, minus the upper snare mechanism. The only visible hint that this drum was originally the Super-Sensitive model is the original bottom rim which reads “Super Sensitive.” The bottom rim itself is quite rare as it is stamped Super-Sensitive on both sides to the left of the snare gate.  This is only the second rim known to us with this configuration. Usually they are stamped on one side only. The drum retains 90% of its original parts, only a few washers, bolts and one slide are either non-original or non-era correct.  This drum would have had snare guards but they are also missing. We can provide a reproduction set of snare guards at additional cost. Original wire or era correct wire snares are present and in very good condition.  The “Classic Gold” finish on the hardware was polished and re-lacquered. The inside of the drum has no date stamp as it probably never did, this practice came in about 1934, however, given the configuration of the drum and its features, we date it between 1930-1932.  This drum has great eye appeal and sounds fantastic. A 6 ½” x 14”, solid maple shell drum from this era is quite hard to find. If the drum were all original, it would be priced in the $1,500 range. This is a great opportunity to get a fantastic sounding, beautiful Ludwig snare drum at a much lower price.
