Here we have a beautiful example of an early 20th century Dixie Music House bass drum with an original Ludwig "Spanish Dancers" painted head. Everything about this drum is beautiful from the nicely preserved bird's eye maple finish to the excellent and rare 'Spanish Dancers" painted head. All ten of the long tube type single tension rods are in excellent condition with no rust. There is a perfectly preserved Dixie paper tag on the inside of the drum easily readable through the reproduction wooden grommet. The Dixie Music House was a music instrument dealer located on Wabash Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. They sold Ludwig and Deagan instruments from the early 20th century along with a full line of hardware, sound effects, and some of their own drums as well. This bass drum is an example of one of the drums that they sold under their own name. As shown in the attached 1928 Ludwig catalog, this Spanish Dancer scene is one of the rarer heads we have scene. There are no tears in the head and no missing or chipped paint. This is a terriffic example of an early 20th century bass drum that will make become a centerpiece in any vintage drum collection.
