Beautiful late 1930’s early 1940’s Slingerland Super Gene Krupa Radio King snare drum. The drum has a  7”x14” solid maple shell with WMP finish, nickel hardware (mostly) and the “Clamshell” strainer.  The drum is in all original condition except for the heads.  The shell is only slightly “out of round” but modern heads fit easily.  There is the name and date, Art Winter, November 1943, written inside the drum, presumably the original owner's name and perhaps the date of purchase.  Some yellowing of the WMP as is typical but really not as yellowed as most from the era.  There are two slight blemishes to the finish.  One is a small split in the pearl covering at one edge of the seam.  The seam however is still tight.  There is also a rub at the edge in one panel of the drum similar to a rash from a stand rubbing against the shell, but again really not noticeable. As often seen in Slingerland drums (and other makers of the era) they sometimes mixed in a chrome part here and there with nickels parts. This drum has the throw-off butt end in nickel whilte the throw-off side is chrome, otherwise the hardware is all nickel plated.  Top rim is not stamped Radio King.  The original snares are missing a few strands of wire (3) making 17 strands instead of 20 however, the snares still sound good.  Overall this is an excellent drum in original condition.  No modifications or extra holes.  If you are looking for that “Swing” era sound and a solid maple shell Gene Krupa snare drum this could be it.
