This is a rare 12", solid maple Leedy tambourine. Most tambourines are 10" or smaller, this shell is a full 12" and the only example of this sized tambourine, made by Leedy, that we have ever seen. The solid maple shell is in excellent condition and has its original lacquer finish. There is a large "Leedy Indianapolis" brass badge on the shel. There are a few small extra holes in the shell from various past mounting strategies. There are 15 pairs of jingles in an offset pattern around the perimeter of the shell. The jungles are a combination of bronze and german silver. This combination, along with the relatively narrow openings for the jingles give the tambourine a nice dry sound. The oversize 12" head is new and in perfect condition, Playing a tambourine of this size, with good articulation, is very easy and gives te player lots of options for playing rhythmic passages. This is a terrific sounding instrument and a curiosity of the early 20th century from Leedy. It will make a great addition to any collection.
