Circa 1926, Ludwig & Ludwig, 5”x14” solid brass shell, StipelGold Super Ludwig snare drum. This is an excellent example of a StipelGold finish offered by Ludwig & Ludwig in the late 1920’s. This finish only appeared in the 1926 catalog only to be replaced the next year with the Ludwigold finish. The stippling on this snare drum has been expertly redone and looks identical to the original finish. The original hardware has been re-lacquered bringing everything back to life. The snares are newly rebuilt with all gut, individually adjustable strands to match the original set. The snare unit is the early 12 strand version rather than the more common 10 strand units found on most Super Ludwig drums. There is an original heater plate which was added to the drum aftermarket -- typical of the era. The extension arm and two snare guard clips are reproductions. The heads are new plastic heads. Few Stipelgold drums survive in tact with original parts and finish making this a rare example of an early Ludwig & Ludwig drum. This drum will make a unique addition to a high end collection in need of a drum representing this rare and short lived finish.
